Surname Dictionary

Clavin fairly rare: Midlands. Ir. Ó Claimhín. A somewhat derogatory name: clamh is a mangy creature, a leper. A sept of Laois-Offaly, the name is sometimes anglicised Swords, from confusion with the Irish word claidheamh, a sword. MIF.
