Stanton Quite numerous: Cork City etc. More usual as Staunton, q.v.
Staunton numerous: all areas, mainly Mayo-Galway, Midlands. Ir. de Stonndún (modern Standún). Anglo-Normans who settled in Mayo after the Invasion. Some assumed the patronymic Mac an Mhíleadha (son of the warrior), so they also appear under Mac Evilly. SI.
Steenson numerous: Ulster generally. Ir. Mac Stíbhin. Scottish, synonymous with Stevenson and Stenson.
Stenson fairly numerous: mainly Sligo-Mayo-Galway, Midlands. See Steenson,
Stinson fairly numerous: mainly Ulster, especially Tyrone-Armagh-Fermanagh. Ir. Mac Stíbhin. Another variant of Stephenson.
