Surname Dictionary

Grady fairly numerous: Galway-Mayo-Sligo etc. Ir. Ó Grádaigh, gráda = illustrious. This is a case where the better-known Grady has displaced the local name Gready, Ó Griada, which itself is a corruption of Mag Riada. O'Grady relates to N Munster. IF &MIF.
O'Grady Very numerous: all areas, especially Munster, Connacht and South East. Ir. Ó Grádaigh (noble). A sept of Thomond (Clare), which changed to Brady in part. Also a Mayo name which is properly Mag Riada. See also Grady. IF.
