Surname Dictionary

Godfrey fairly numerous: Ulster, Tipperary-Limerick etc. Ir. Mac Gothraidh which also occurs as Mac Gofraidh (Gofraidh = Geofrey). These were a branch of the Maguires of Fermanagh and appear under various anglicisations: MacCorry, Caffrey, MacCaghery etc. Bearers of the name in Munster may derive from Gohery, q.v. SI.
