Surname Dictionary

Foy numerous: Galway, Connacht generally, Ulster, N Leinster. Ir. Ó Fiaich. From fiach, a raven, used as a personal name. Woulfe mentions Ó Fáith as a shortened form of Fahey, which might account for many of the Foys in Connacht. SI & SGG.

Ó Fiaich Very rare: Armagh. Ir.Lang. Note the late lamented Tomás, Cardinal Archbishop of Armagh. The name probably derives from Fiach, raven. See also Fee. SI.
