Bethel Very rare: N.Down. Welsh, 17 cent. It has occurred in Limerick as a Palatine name. SI.
Bonar numerous: Ulster. Ir. Ó Cnáimhsí, which occurs as Kneafsey in Connacht. However, in E Ulster, the name is of Scottish origin. The name is rare in Limerick & Tipperary but of Palatine descent. Woulfe says that Ó Cnáimhsí is ametronymic, i.e. derived from a woman's name. In fact, cnáimhseach means midwife.
Boveniser rare: Limerick. Palatine, i.e. German refugees who came to Ireland in 1709.
Bowman fairly numerous: Belfast, Down, Dublin, Cork, Galway. Various derivations: Norman as Beaumont. English, an archer. Scottish, a cattleman. Also a Palatine name in Limerick. Woulfe gives Ir. Buamann. SI & SGG.
Corneille Very rare. Limerick. Palatine, 18 cent. A common French name - a Huguenot connection, perhaps. SI.
Delmege Very rare: Limerick. Palatine, 18 cent. SI.
Doupe Very rare: Limerick. A Palatine name, 18 cent.
Heavener rare: Dublin, Wicklow, Limerick. A Palatine name (18 cent) associated with Limerick, which was chief Palatine settlement.
Hoffman rare: Dublin and scattered. Palatine or other German immigrants. "a farmer".
Hornick Very rare: Wexford. Palatine, 18 cent.
Latchford rare: Dublin, Kerry. Possibly Palatine, associated with Tralee, 18 cent.
Le Gear Very rare: Limerick City. Palatine, but possibly Huguenot.
Mee fairly numerous: Galway-Mayo, Monaghan-Cavan-Louth etc. Ir. Ó Miadhaigh, from miadhach, honourable. Originally a sept of W Meath. In Monaghan, it may be an abbreviation of Mac Namee, q.v. It is also a Palatine name in Limerick. MIF.
Micks rare: Limerick etc. The Palatine name Mich or Mick is on record in Limerick and this seems to be the origin of the present name.
Poff rare: Kerry etc. A Palatine name, always associated with Kerry.
Rapple rare: Dublin, Belfast etc. A Palatine name, 18 cent. Associated with Wexford.
Reale Quite numerous: Limerick (City & Co.) etc. Ir. Ó Raghaill (SI); Roghaill (SGA). See Ryall and Ryle. This was also a Palatine name in Wexford.
Ruttle Quite numerous: Limerick etc. Palatines, 18 cent. Originally Ruckell. One of the most durable of the Palatine names.
Rynhart fairly rare: Wexford etc. Reynard was a Palatine name in Wexford.
Shier fairly rare: Limerick. Palatine, 18 cent. Also as Shire, q.v.
Shire fairly rare: Limerick. Palatine, 18 cent. Derived from German Schyer.
Shouldice rare: Dublin etc. This name was Palatine, 18 cent, in Limerick.
Sparling fairly rare: Limerick-Clare-Tipperary. Palatine, 18 cent in Limerick.
Steepe Very rare: Limerick. Palatine, 18 cent.
Switzer Quite numerous: Dublin and scattered. This was a Palatine name in Limerick in 18 cent and is still found there.
Teskey rare: Rathkeale (Limerick) etc. Palatines, 18 cent. Perhaps originally Slavic.
