Allman confined to N. Kerry & Cork. In Ireland 12 cent., probably of Norman origin, Aleman = German. Irish Alamán.
Boveniser rare: Limerick. Palatine, i.e. German refugees who came to Ireland in 1709.
Charles Quite numerous: Tyrone etc in Ulster, Dublin, N Connacht etc. Ir. Mac Cathail. Also anglicised Corless, q.v. May be of English origin in some cases. The name came via France from the German Karl, a man. Cathal, on the other hand, means "battle-strong".
Cramer Quite numerous: Leitrim etc; Limerick-Tipperary border. Ir. Mac Thréinir (strong man), also in Cork von Kramer (German) and the English Creamer, meaning "pedlar". MIF.
Fleischmann rare: Cork. German, fairly recent immigrants.
Haberlin rare: Waterford. German, 18 cent. SI.
Heinhold Very rare: Cork. German, recent immigrants, presumably.
Hoffman rare: Dublin and scattered. Palatine or other German immigrants. "a farmer".
Hoffmeester Very rare: Belfast. German, "a steward".
Jerym Quite numerous: Cork. Anglo-Normans, 13 cent, deriving from le Germain (the German). The Irish is given as Gearmann (SGA).
Kampff Very rare: Dublin. German, presumably.
Keller Quite numerous: Dublin and scattered. Probably an abbreviation of Kelleher, although it could be Scottish or German.
Klein Very rare: Down etc. A Jewish name. German for "small".
Koch Very rare: Belfast area. Presumably Jewish. Also German for "cook".
Kramer rare: Scattered. German for "shop-keeper". See Cramer.
Lehmann Very rare: Dublin. A German term often adopted by Jews involved in banking.
Lipsett rare: Ulster. German Lipsitz: possibly 17 cent. SI.
Meyers fairly rare: Dublin, Belfast, Kerry-Clare etc. Various origins: English, French and German, but in the west it is native Ó Meidhir. See Meers & Myers.
Mueller rare: Cork etc. German or Scandinavian, 20 cent.
Ohle rare: Dublin. German, "oil".
Rosenstock Very rare: Dublin etc. German, 20 cent.
Schmidt fairly rare: Cork, Clare etc. German, 20 cent.
Shire fairly rare: Limerick. Palatine, 18 cent. Derived from German Schyer.
Wagner fairly rare: Cork etc. German origin, "carter".
Weber rare: Dublin, Cork etc. This is the German equivalent of Webber, also meaning "weaver". However, it may be a variant of the the English in some cases.
Weiner rare: Maghera (Derry) etc. German origin, "wine-maker".:
Wolff rare: Belfast area and scattered. German version of widespread name.
