Surname Dictionary

Gillan numerous: Antrim, Ulster generally, Connacht. Ir. Ó Giolláin, dimin. of giolla, an attendant. These were a family of Cineál Eoghain (Tyrone). There were probably other sources in Connacht. SI.
Gillane Very rare: Galway. See Gillan.
Gillen numerous: Ulster, Connacht, Midlands. See Gillan.
