MacKeeney Very rare: Donegal. See Mac Keaney.
MacKenna Very numerous: all areas, especially Ulster and Midlands. Ir. Mac Cionaoith, from first name Cionaoth (Kenneth) which may be of Pictish origin. A sept of the Southern Uí Néill in Monaghan, they also flourished in Roscommon. In Munster it became Mag Cineáith (accent on last syllable). SGG & GPN.
MacKenny fairly rare: Tyrone-Armagh-Down-Louth; Leitrim. Variant of Mac Kenna, q.v.
