Ó Seanacháin Shanahan: líonmhar: sa Mhumhain & Oir-dheisceart. Clann de chuid Dál gCais a díbríodh ag an Brianaigh i 1318 agus a scaipeadh ar fud na Mumhan. Bíonn Shannon orthu go minic ina dtír dúchais, an Clár. Fréamh: seanach, sean, críona.
Shanaghan Very rare: Castlederg (Tyrone). See Shanahan.
Shanahan numerous: Munster and South East etc. Ir. Ó Seanacháin, dimin. of sean, an elder. They were a sept of Thomond, dispersed in 14 cent. Often changed to Shannon, q.v.
