MacElroy	numerous: Tyrone-Fermanagh, Armagh-Monaghan-Louth etc. Ir. Mac Giolla Rua, red-haired youth or servant. A sept of Fermanagh, often changed to Gilroy, Kilroy, q.v.
MacIlroy	numerous: Ulster generally, especially Antrim. Ir. Mac Giolla Ruaidh, son of red-haired attendant. The name was widespread in Scotland.
