Hines	rare: Belfast, Dublin. English, "servant"; also possibly a variant of Hynes.
Hynds	fairly numerous: Ulster. English, hind = servant.
Hynes	numerous: all areas, especially Connacht, N Munster, S Leinster. Ir. Ó h-Eidhin, eidheann, ivy. A sept who were chiefs of Aidhne (S Galway). In Ulster the name may be of English origin, for which see Hine.
Ó h-Eidhin	Hynes: an-líonmhar tríd an dtír, i nGaillimh, a n-áit dúchais, ach go h-áirithe. Bhíodar i gceannas ar Aidhne ar feadh míle blian, mar aon le muintir Uí Sheacnasaigh. An bhrí: eidhean, fás greamathach, nó, b'fhéidir, ainm pearsanta éigin. IF & SGG.
