Costigan	fairly numerous: S Leinster,Tipperary etc. Ir. Mac Oistigín. Though a branch of the FitzPatricks, Mac Giolla Phádraig, the name derives from Hodgkin, a dimin. of Roger. In the spoken language it is now Mac Costagáin. MIF.

Bhain siad le Mac Giolla Padraig in Osraí. Préamh: ón ainm Béarla Hodgkin, díspeagadh ar Roger. Ach ba chlann Ghaelach iad mar sin féin, de réir de Bhulbh.
