Tugtar an bhrí, de ghnáth, mar síodhach = síochánta ach tá an dara tuairim ann gurab é an an focal ón Sean-Ghaeilge sídach = mactíre, is bun leis. Mícheál Ó Síocháin (1870-1945), ard-easpag Sydney na h-Astráile, bhí sé ina bhunaitheoir ar Choláiste na Rinne, 1909. Litriú nua: Ó Síocháin.
