Surname Dictionary

Hogan Very numerous: Munster, Connacht, S Leinster etc. Ir. Ó h-Ógáin (óg = young). The main sept was of Dál gCais, but located in Tipperary. Another in W Cork. It is now amongst 100 commonest names. SI & IF.

Is mó duine den dream sa a thuill cáil: luaimís John Hogan (1800-58), dealbhóir agus "Galloping Hogan" a threoirigh an Sáirséalach in eachtra Bhaile an Fhaoitigh.
