At a U.S. National Genealogical Society conference in the late 1990s, I overheard a participant say "Irish is sexy", meaning Irish ancestry. Thank you, Riverdance.

For whatever reason, Irish genealogy took off in the 1990s, with more and more sources and transcripts coming to light. When the time came to revise Tracing Your Irish Ancestors in 1998, there was plenty to add. The biggest difference, though, was the addition of a listing of all copies of Roman Catholic parish registers, with dates and locations, keyed to county maps. It took a while, but eventually someone noticed that the entry for Newry under Armagh said "See Down", and the entry under Down said "See Armagh".
