Bhí dhá chlann (1) Tír Chonaill mar a rabhadar ina gcomharbaí ar Cholm Cille i dToraigh; (2) Sligeach, craobh d'Uí Fiachrach, suite ag an Scrín; scaipeadh iad seo sa 17 céad. Ar chúis nach léir, bhí an sloinne seo measctha le Ó Robhartaigh, q.v., le fada. An bhrí, ar ndóigh, rath + beartach .i. flaithiúil. Litriú nua: Ó Raifeartaigh.

Rafferty numerous: all areas, especially, Ulster, N Leinster, Connacht. Ir. Ó Raithbheartaigh, (prosperous one). There were septs in Sligo and Donegal where they were associated with Tory Island as Ó Robhartaigh. See also Roarty. IF.
Raverty Very rare: Bray (Wicklow). A variant of Rafferty associated with Oriel.
