Heanen rare: Down. Variant of Heenan, q.v.
Heenan fairly numerous: Down etc. also Tipperary-Waterford etc. Ir. Ó h-Éanáin, a sept of North Tipperary. Woulfe regards it as synonym of Ó h-Eidhneáin. The root may be in the first name Éanna - the connection with eidhean (ivy) is tenuous. SI & SGG.
