Gillies Quite numerous: Armagh-Tyrone etc. Scots Gaelic: Giolla Íosa (servant of Jesus). See Gilleece, MacAleese. SS.
Gleese rare: Galway. Ir. de Glíos. Existed in 15 cent as de Glys. SI.
Mac Giolla Íosa Mac Aleese, Gilleece: líonmhar in Aontroim mar Mac Aleese, níos lú in Oirghialla mar Gilleece. Tá a lán leagan eile ann - in Albain ach go h-áirithe. Bhí clann aitheanta i nDoire. Anois tá Uachtarán na h-Éireann againn i 1998!
MacAleese numerous: Antrim etc. Ir. Mac Giolla Íosa (servant of Jesus). A sept of Derry where they are still represented. Found as Mac Leish in Scotland. SGG.
MacLees fairly rare: Belfast area etc. Variant of Mac Aleese, q.v.
