Gallen fairly numerous: This name is concentrated around Castlederg, Tyrone, and Donegal. Ir. Ó Gaillín. Possibly from gall, a cock. A sept of Cineál Eoghain. MacLysaght also mentions a Breifne sept Ó Galláin (Gallon), but these are not in evidence at present.
Gallon Very rare: Wicklow. Ir. Ó Galláin. In Dublin, it usually occurs as Gallen, q.v.
Ó Gaillín Gallen: líon beag: Caisleán na Deirge, Tír Eoghain & Tír Chonaill. Clann de chuid Cineál Eoghain, deir Mac Firbhisigh. Brí: gall = coileach ? Féach Ó Galláin.
