Surname Dictionary

Dooley numerous: all areas; particularly Midlands, Kilkenny-Tipperary, Galway. Ir. Ó Dubhlaoich (dark warrior). Woulfe mentions three families in Meath, W Meath and Galway. The Meath grouping later settled in Laois. IF.
Dowley Quite numerous Waterford etc. Ir. Ó Dubhlaoich, variant of Dooley, q.v.
